Floyd Mayweather VS Manny Pacquiao
The boxing world was filled with excitement and buzz when the
Mayweather-Pacquiao bout was officially announced to be held on May 2, 2015. For years, fans of both fighters always clash with each other over who is better, Floyd or Manny, and finally the wait is over and it is finally time to see who will emerge as the best fighter. But before the grand event, we will break down the strengths and weaknesses of both fighters.
Stance: Floyd is using an orthodox stance, meaning the boxer places his left foot in front of the right foot, letting his weaker side closer to the opponent. Manny, on the other hand, uses the southpaw stance which is the mirror-image of the orthodox stance, favoring the left.
Speed: In terms of footspeed and hand speed, Floyd has the slight advantage as shown in his previous fights where he utilizes both in his counter punching or well-timed attacks on his opponents. Manny’s speed on the other hand shouldn’t be underestimated as he can also be dangerously quick when attacking.
Power: When you talk about power punches, Manny easily has more of it. However, while Pacquiao is more powerful in punching, it is less accurate than Mayweather’s which is also slightly quicker. Floyd may take advantage of this as Pacquiao’s punches tends to leave him wide open when he misses.
Overall, Manny’s strengths include: offensive master, volume punching, straight left, KO power, foot speed, hand speed, awkwardness, unrelenting energy, in and out (footwork). His weaknesses however are: counter punchers, straight right, boxers, cutting off ring. Floyd strengths, on the other hand, include: defensive master, counter punching, straight right, adjustments, quickness(reaction time), hand speed, precision, boxing technician, movement (running). Weaknesses are: southpaws, straight left, hand speed, awkwardness.
